Our Organic Whey Protein is sourced from the Rumiano Family Organic Cheese Company, artisans and experts on USDA Organic rules and Non-GMO Project verification. The Rumiano family has been making cheese in northern California for four generations since 1921 to be exact. The process begins with fresh, organic milk every morning and ends in a batch of artisan, hand-crafted organic cheese and a batch of artisan, hand-crafted organic whey that same evening. One day, one batch. There’s no freezing, no holding tanks, no staging, no storage.
There are only 11 dairies in our Certified Organic, Grass Fed dairy co-op and most of the farmers had a great, great, great, great grandfather who staked their claim during the Gold Rush. The farms, like the Rumiano cheese factory, have been passed down from generation to generation. Located in northern California, these farms enjoy a unique climate perfect for year-round grass feeding.
Garden of Life Organic Whey Protein comes from pasture-raised Jersey cows. These cows graze on grass at least 300 days of the year and our farms average around one cow for every acre of land. Each cow eats grass as the majority of its diet and when their feed is supplemented, it’s only with certified organic feed.
The farms, the cows, the grass, any supplemental feed and the milking operations are all audited and Certified USDA Organic and verified non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project. Every batch is quality tested including for hormones (like rBGH) and antibiotics before being accepted by the Rumiano’s facility.
